An ancestor of mine, a 5th great grandfather. Obviously a wealthy Charles County Maryland planter. Anglican and undoubtedly a large donor to the local church. I post this because it is one way for me to reveal the real history of this county and the reality of slaves as "goods and chattels". I don't care if your ancestors owned slaves or not; if you are white you benefitted and are still benefitting. Besides slavery itself and the issue that freed slaves were never compensated the servitude and discrimination continued disguised as Jim Crow, redlining, and separate but equal. Policing designed to keep Black and Brown people "in their place."
Somewhere are descendants of these people. Maybe someday, somehow I can help to repair what is broken.
